CONCEPT
A stress-free drink.
A bottle that works well in a variety of situations.
Morikawa Brewery, located in Yasura, Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is a small family-run brewery. Under the brand name Hakukou, it has a strong local following among restaurants and retailers. It is a crisp sake that is not overly floral, but has a flavor that is so good that you can drink it as much as you want. Since its establishment in 1887, the company's commitment to food sake has been passed down through the generations, expressed in the phrase “the more you pump it, the deeper the taste and aroma.
Although Hakukou has such an impression of softness and fullness, it is necessary to pursue a flavor that meets the needs of the new era. We worked with Mr. Kaoru Morikawa, a potential successor to the brewery, who is in his 20s, to create a sake that young people would like to drink, from the quality of the sake to the concept of the sake.
Near the brewery is a mountain called Mount Noro, which rises 839 meters above sea level. The name “Norori” was chosen by combining the word “Noro” and the word “light,” meaning “easy” and “easy” to drink. Such a stress-free sake. Enjoy it in the comfort of your own home, or enjoy it outdoors with everyone! It is a bottle that can be used in a variety of situations.
Brewery / MORIKAWA SHUZO CO., LTD.
For over 100 years since its establishment,
We have been brewing sake in accordance with the traditional “soft water brewing method” of the Hiroshima Touji clan for more than 100 years.
It was founded in 1887. The representative brand at that time was “Moritsuru”, which later became “Hakukou”, the current representative brand. There was also another brand called “Kamotsukasa”, which was exported to Taiwan before the war.
In September 1945, soon after the war, the Noro River flowing by the brewery was flooded by Makurazaki Typhoon, and seven buildings including the main house were washed away. Seven buildings, including the founding brewery and the main house, were swept away. Old documents relating to the brewery's roots and the origin of its main brand, Hakukou, were lost, and there are still many matters that have not been clarified.
The current head of the brewery, Tomonori, is the seventh generation, counting from the founder, Tatsuzo Morikawa. Motoharu, the younger brother of the current owner, is the toji, or master brewer. Although it is a small brewery, it has been brewing sake for more than 100 years since its establishment, while maintaining the traditional “soft-water brewing method” of the Hiroshima Touji family.
